Epoxy Infusion System is a two-part low-viscosity epoxy system specifically formulated for vacuum-assisted resin infusion (VARI), vacuum infusion process (VIP), and resin transfer molding (RTM) of large composite structures. The combined mixed viscosity is <300 mPa·s at 25°C (typically 150-250 mPa·s), enabling complete wet-out of dry fiber preforms in large parts including wind turbine blades, marine hulls, aerospace secondary structures, and automotive body panels.

The system is based on a BPA/BPF epoxy blend with carefully selected aliphatic cycloaliphatic amine hardener to achieve a balanced combination of low initial viscosity, extended pot life (2-8 hours at 25°C), controlled gelation, and post-cure performance. Typical cure schedule is room temperature gel + 50-80°C/4h post-cure, achieving Tg 80-120°C. For elevated-temperature service, a full elevated post-cure (120°C/2h) pushes Tg to 110-130°C.

The infusion system is engineered for complete fiber wet-out and void-free consolidation in preforms with fiber volume fractions of 55-65%. Formulation includes anti-blush agents to prevent amine bloom on uncovered surfaces and defoamers to minimize micro-void formation during infusion. Fiber compatibility includes glass, carbon, aramid, and basalt fibers with standard sizing systems.

FAQ

Successful VARI/VIP infusion requires resin viscosity <500 mPa·s at infusion temperature, with <200-300 mPa·s preferred for large parts (>2m flow length). Higher viscosity increases flow resistance, slows infusion speed, and can leave dry spots in complex preforms. At 250 mPa·s mixed viscosity and 1 bar vacuum pressure differential, achievable flow length is typically 1.5-3m per infusion port depending on fiber architecture. For wind blade root sections (flow length >5m), heated infusion tools (40-50°C) are used to reduce viscosity further, requiring careful pot life management.
