Epoxy RTM System (Resin Transfer Molding, automotive grade) is a two-part epoxy system designed for high-pressure RTM (HP-RTM) and compression RTM (C-RTM) processes in automotive serial production. The system is characterized by very low injection viscosity (<100 mPa·s at 80°C injection temperature), rapid cure at 120-140°C (demold time 2-5 minutes), and Tg >120°C after 4-5 minute cure — enabling automotive cycle times competitive with thermoset SMC and approaching CFRP/thermoset targets for series production.

The system is formulated with fast-cure amine hardeners and reactive accelerators to enable heated mold cure at 120-140°C. The mix ratio is typically 100:25-35 by weight with high-precision metered mixing systems (MK/Cannon/Huntsman SRIM equipment). Injection at 100-150 bar pressure with heated lines ensures rapid mold fill (<30 seconds) of complex automotive shapes.

Current automotive applications include door panels, roof modules, trunk lids, underbody components, and structural reinforcements in Class A surface programs. The system is certified for carbon fiber reinforced composite structures meeting BMW i-series, Audi carbon, and other automotive OEM specifications. Mold release: semi-permanent internal mold release agents are incorporated to reduce release agent application frequency to 1 per 20-50 cycles.

FAQ

HP-RTM requires: (1) high-pressure metered mixing machine (Cannon, KraussMaffei, or Huntsman SRIM type) capable of 100-200 bar injection pressure, <1% mix ratio deviation, and heated resin/hardener tanks at 40-80°C; (2) matched metal mold with hydraulic press (100-400 ton clamping force depending on part size); (3) heated mold to 120-140°C with fast cycle temperature control (<5°C uniformity); (4) RTM vacuum assist to prevent void entrainment. For dry fiber preforms, automated preform handling and loading into the mold is required to achieve <60-second preform placement time for competitive cycle time targets.
