Key Features

  • Highest flexibility in BPA solid epoxy range
  • Excellent compatibility with polyester in hybrid powder coatings
  • Superior adhesion and corrosion barrier in coatings
  • Low color — suitable for light-colored powder coatings
  • Used in outdoor metal and appliance hybrid powder coatings

Bisphenol A Solid Epoxy Resin (Grade 1007, EEW 1750-2100 g/eq) is a high-molecular-weight solid epoxy resin equivalent to DER 664, Araldite GT 7071, and Epikote 1007. With polymerization degree n≈9-11, this resin is a brittle solid at ambient temperature with a softening point of 100-120°C. The very high molecular weight provides excellent flexibility in coatings and, combined with polyester or acrylic resins, produces thermosetting coating systems with outstanding impact resistance and adhesion.

This grade is primarily used as the epoxy component in hybrid thermosetting powder coatings (60/40 or 70/30 polyester/epoxy hybrid) for outdoor metal applications, where the high molecular weight provides superior adhesion and corrosion barrier versus lower molecular weight grades. The relatively low epoxy content (EEW 1750-2100) provides very long open time and excellent flow in powder coating applications.

Additional applications include can and coil coating formulations, flexibilizing agent for high-performance coatings, and as a resin modifier to improve impact resistance and adhesion in construction epoxy systems. Chemical resistance is moderate — suitable for mild chemical and corrosion environments but not for solvent or strong acid service.

FAQ

Hybrid powder coatings are thermosetting powder systems using a blend of carboxyl-terminated polyester resin and solid epoxy resin. In a 60:40 polyester/epoxy hybrid, the polyester provides UV stability (for outdoor applications), while the epoxy provides adhesion, corrosion resistance, and hardness. Grade 1007 (high molecular weight, EEW 1750-2100) provides higher flexibility and better overbake resistance versus lower grades (1001, 1004), making it preferred for applications requiring excellent impact resistance.
