Benzoyl Peroxide Granule (75%, Wetted)

CAS 94-36-0In StockSample available

Key Features

  • Water wetting reduces ignition and deflagration risk vs. dry BPO
  • Higher BPO concentration than paste for compact handling
  • Dissolves readily in styrene and reactive diluents
  • Suitable for custom paste compounding and SMC formulation
  • Cost-effective intermediate form between powder and paste

Benzoyl Peroxide Granule at 75% active content is produced by wetting BPO crystals with approximately 25% water to reduce flammability and sensitization risk compared to the dry 98% powder. This wetted granule form is widely used in the rubber, polymer, and composites industries where higher BPO concentration than paste is needed but powder is too hazardous to handle. The granule dissolves readily in styrene monomer, plasticizers, and reactive diluents to produce custom BPO solutions and pastes. In composites, 75% wetted BPO is used as a raw material for SMC/BMC compounders who formulate their own peroxide systems, and in pultrusion die lubrication formulations. The water content acts as a phlegmatizer, reducing the risk of accidental ignition. Dosage in finished composite systems is equivalent to the 50% paste on an active-oxygen basis — typically 2–4% paste equivalent. When dissolved in monomer for use, any added water must be accounted for in moisture-sensitive formulations. The product has a shorter shelf life than paste grades and must be stored below 25°C in a refrigerated environment when long storage is needed.

FAQ

To obtain the same active BPO content: if your formulation calls for 4% BPO paste (50%), you would use 4% × 50/75 = 2.67% of the 75% granule. Always calculate on an active-oxygen or active-BPO basis, not on total product weight.
