Key Features

  • Triple tertiary amine functionality for high catalytic activity
  • Phenol group provides additional co-catalytic synergy
  • Most widely used tertiary amine accelerator in epoxy industry
  • Reduces post-cure temperature and time for epoxy systems
  • Compatible with amine, anhydride, and DICY hardener systems

2,4,6-Tris(dimethylaminomethyl)phenol (DMP-30) is a trifunctional tertiary amine epoxy accelerator and catalyst, widely used to accelerate the cure of epoxy resins in combination with primary/secondary amine hardeners, anhydride systems, or as a standalone catalyst for epoxy homopolymerization. DMP-30 offers approximately three times the catalytic activity per gram compared to simpler tertiary amines like BDMA, due to its three dimethylaminomethyl groups and the additional co-catalytic effect of the phenol hydroxyl group. It is the standard accelerator for ambient-temperature and mildly elevated temperature cure of epoxy systems in civil engineering, composite tooling, marine coating, and structural adhesive applications. Typical dosage is 1–3 phr when used as an accelerator alongside an amine or anhydride hardener, or 3–5% alone for elevated-temperature homopolymerization. DMP-30 is a colorless to pale yellow, low-viscosity liquid with a strong amine odor. It is skin-sensitizing and corrosive — PPE required. DMP-30 is also the preferred accelerator for cobalt-free cure systems using BPO/amine for UPR, as it provides excellent activity in combination with MEKP-cobalt free formulations.

FAQ

When used as an accelerator alongside a stoichiometric primary/secondary amine (such as IPDA, PACM, or TETA), DMP-30 is typically added at 1–3 phr relative to the epoxy resin. At 1 phr, it provides modest acceleration; at 3 phr, gel time can be halved. Higher levels (>3 phr) can cause excessive exotherm and brittleness. Always run a small-scale gel time test before full production.
