Key Features

  • Qualified to AWWA C950, ASTM D2992, ISO 14692
  • Excellent chemical resistance for water and sewage service
  • Low viscosity for high glass content filament winding
  • Low water absorption for buried pipe osmotic resistance
  • Long bath stability for continuous winding production

Pipe and Tank Grade UPR is a corrosion-resistant isophthalic unsaturated polyester resin specifically qualified for the manufacture of FRP pressure pipes, above-ground and buried storage tanks, and process vessels under ASTM, AWWA, ISO, and NF standards. The resin provides the combination of low viscosity (150-300 mPa·s) needed for high glass content filament winding and the chemical resistance required for water, sewage, and mild chemical storage service.

The isophthalic formulation provides HDT of 75-85°C after room temperature cure and up to 100°C with post-cure, and water absorption of ≤0.25% (24h immersion), critical for buried pipe applications where osmotic resistance prevents soil-induced degradation. Cure is by MEKP/cobalt for ambient or slightly heated (40-60°C) cure cycles.

The resin meets requirements of ASTM D2992 (FRP piping under cyclic pressure), AWWA C950 (fiberglass pressure pipe for water), ISO 14692 (petroleum and natural gas FRP piping), and EN 14364 (tanks). It is suitable for water supply, sewage force mains, desalination plant piping, oil field FRP pipe, and above-ground chemical storage tanks in water/wastewater treatment facilities.

FAQ

Maximum operating pressure depends on pipe diameter, wall thickness, and winding design. For reference: DN 300 mm (12 inch) pressure class PN 16 (160 psi / 11 bar) pipe wound with ±55° helical and 90° hoop layers at 65% glass content requires a wall thickness of approximately 7-9 mm with this resin system. The Hydrostatic Design Basis (HDB) per ASTM D2992 must be established by full-scale cyclic pressure testing of the specific pipe design.
