ECR-glass Direct Roving 4800 tex
Key Features
- Boron-free chemistry — 3× lower acid loss than E-glass
- High tex (4800) — fewer wraps per large part, shorter cycle
- Multi-resin sizing — epoxy / UPR / VE
- Tex CV ≤3% across the heavy strand — uniform thick-section properties
- Suitable for large-diameter pipe winding and FRP bridge structures
ECR-glass Direct Roving 4800 tex is a heavy-tex, boron-free continuous glass fiber roving engineered for thick-section pultrusion and large-diameter FRP pipe winding in chemically aggressive service. The ECR (E-glass Corrosion Resistant) chemistry removes B₂O₃ and lowers alkali content to suppress acid-attack on the glass network, delivering acid loss ≤6% in 96 h immersion in 10% H₂SO₄ at 96°C versus ~20% for standard E-glass.
At 4800 tex (g/km) — twice the linear density of standard 2400 tex roving — each pass of the winding head or each strand through the pultrusion die deposits more glass per stroke, reducing total wraps and shortening cycle time on large parts. Filament diameter is approximately 17 μm with single-filament tensile ≥3400 MPa. The silane-based sizing is compatible with epoxy, UPR, and VE resin systems and is engineered to survive both pultrusion die cure (130–180°C) and large-diameter pipe winding bath dwell times.

Applications
FAQ
4800 tex ECR is purpose-built for large structural parts where two requirements coincide: thick-section glass loading and aggressive chemical environment. Examples include DN 1500 mm FRP scrubber inlet pipe at a sulfuric acid plant, 200 mm thick pultruded sheet piling for canal lining under chloride exposure, and FRP secondary containment around acid storage tanks. Using 2400 tex would double the wrap count and machine hours on the large diameter; using E-glass at 4800 would fail acid spec. The 4800 tex ECR SKU eliminates this trade-off.
