Peroxide Blend for Fast Cure (5-8 min gel)

CAS 1338-23-4In StockSample available

Key Features

  • Pre-formulated for 5-8 minute gel times at standard cobalt levels
  • Balanced through-cure quality despite fast gel onset
  • Good sag resistance on vertical surfaces post-gel
  • Simplifies dosing by pre-blending peroxide components
  • Optimized for spray-up and high-speed hand lay-up production

Peroxide Blend for Fast Cure is a pre-formulated combination of MEKP and acetylacetone peroxide (or equivalent fast-acting peroxide components) specifically designed to deliver gel times of 5–8 minutes at 20°C with standard cobalt octoate levels. This product targets high-throughput composite fabrication operations such as spray-up and hand lay-up on production lines where rapid gelation and short demold cycles are needed to maximize output. The balanced peroxide species distribution provides fast initial gel without sacrificing through-cure quality — a challenge with standard MEKP at elevated dosages, which can lead to high exotherm and surface crazing. The blend is engineered to maintain good flow and wet-out in the first 3–4 minutes, followed by rapid gel onset, minimizing sagging on vertical mold surfaces. Compatible with standard cobalt octoate at 0.3–0.5% (6% solution), this product simplifies the dosing process by pre-blending the peroxide components. Recommended dosage is 2–3% on resin. Not recommended for thick laminates (>10 mm single pour) due to exotherm risk.

FAQ

Yes, it can be used with gelcoat resins for rapid gel on production lines. However, for high-quality gelcoat surfaces (marine, automotive), the fast gel time must be balanced against proper wet-out of the gel coat on the mold surface. Ensure thorough mixing and spray application before the gel time begins. Not recommended for thick casting applications.
