  • Good moisture and surface-tolerance for field applications
  • Outstanding adhesion to metals, glass, and concrete
  • Mid-range amine value for versatile epoxy formulation
  • Good corrosion resistance in marine and industrial environments

Polyamide Hardener with Amine Value 115 mg KOH/g is a dimer-acid-based polyamide epoxy curing agent offering excellent flexibility, good adhesion, and outstanding peel strength in cured epoxy systems. Polyamide hardeners are produced by reacting dimer fatty acids with polyamines, resulting in long-chain amide structures that impart toughness and flexibility to the epoxy network. The amine value of 115 indicates a mid-range reactivity suitable for general-purpose epoxy coatings, marine anti-corrosion primers, adhesive formulations, and composite sandwich bonding applications. At this amine value, mix ratios with standard BPA epoxy are approximately 100:50–70 (epoxy:hardener by weight), depending on the epoxy's EEW. Polyamide hardeners are recognized for their tolerance to surface moisture and poor surface preparation, making them the preferred choice for field-applied marine coatings and maintenance painting. Cured films exhibit good flexibility, elongation, and impact resistance, with moderate chemical resistance. Not recommended for applications requiring high Tg or excellent solvent resistance — consider cycloaliphatic or aromatic hardeners for those requirements.

FAQ

Polyamines (DETA, TETA) are short-chain molecules with high amine concentration, providing fast, hard, brittle-to-tough cures. Polyamides are long-chain polymers built from dimer fatty acids and amines, providing slower cure, flexibility, good adhesion, and peel strength at the cost of lower chemical resistance and Tg. Polyamides are preferred where toughness, adhesion, and moisture tolerance are priority over chemical resistance.
