Epoxy Paste Adhesive for Sandwich Core Bonding

In StockSample available

Key Features

  • Hollow microsphere filling reduces adhesive weight (0.8–1.0 g/cm³)
  • Low modulus minimizes core crushing and stress concentration
  • Excellent adhesion to foam, honeycomb, and composite face sheets
  • Thixotropic for application on vertical surfaces and complex shapes
  • Also suitable as fillet and edge fill adhesive

This lightweight filled epoxy paste adhesive is specifically formulated for bonding foam and honeycomb core materials to composite face sheets in sandwich panel construction. The thixotropic paste contains hollow glass microspheres as a low-density filler, reducing the adhesive density to approximately 0.8–1.0 g/cm³ while maintaining excellent adhesion, shear strength, and minimal bond weight penalty. Optimized for bonding PVC foam, SAN foam, PET foam, and aramid/aluminum honeycomb to carbon fiber, glass fiber, and hybrid composite face sheets. Mix ratio is 2:1 by volume. Tensile shear strength on composite-to-foam joints exceeds 4 MPa. Flatwise tensile strength exceeds 2 MPa. The low modulus (compared to unfilled epoxy) reduces stress concentration at the adhesive-core interface and prevents core crushing during cure. Cures at room temperature in 24 hours or at 60°C in 4 hours. Also used as a fillet adhesive for insert potting and edge filling operations in sandwich panels.

FAQ

Apply a uniform layer of mixed adhesive to one or both bond surfaces (face sheet or core) at approximately 200–350 g/m² using a notched trowel or scraper for flat panels, or by brush for complex shapes. Position the core onto the face sheet, apply light pressure or vacuum bag the assembly to consolidate the bond line to 0.1–0.5 mm, and cure per schedule. For pre-gelled honeycomb, apply adhesive only to the cell walls at the bonding face.
