Key Features

  • 60–90 min open time for large-volume blade bonding operations
  • Dynamic fatigue performance >10M cycles for wind blade service life
  • High viscosity paste (60,000–120,000 mPa·s) for bead application
  • Consistent cure properties from 5–35°C manufacturing range
  • High compressive strength (≥80 MPa) for root insert potting

This two-component epoxy paste adhesive is specifically engineered for the structural bonding operations in wind turbine blade manufacturing, including shear web bonding, tip bonding, root insert installation, and leading edge shell closure bonding. The formulation provides a long open time of 60–90 minutes at 23°C to accommodate the large volumes dispensed in modern blade manufacturing (30–200 kg per blade). Viscosity is optimized at 60,000–120,000 mPa·s for bead application along web flanges without excessive sag. The adhesive provides a tensile shear strength ≥18 MPa and a compressive strength ≥80 MPa. Dynamic fatigue performance exceeds 10 million cycles at 10 MPa alternating shear stress, critical for wind blade service life. Cure at room temperature or with mild heating to 40–60°C for faster cycle times. The formulation is robust to humidity variations and maintains consistent adhesive properties across the temperature range 5–35°C encountered in blade manufacturing facilities.

FAQ

For production blade manufacturing, the adhesive is dispensed using a two-component heated drum pump system with a heated static mixer. The mixed adhesive is dispensed directly along the web flange and shell bond surfaces in a continuous bead. Typical application rates are 2–5 kg/min for a fully automated system. The 60–90 minute open time allows the shell halves to be positioned and closed before the adhesive exceeds workable viscosity. Post-application, the mold is closed and the assembly held under blade mold clamping pressure.
