Vacuum Infusion Grade UPR

CAS 26455-61-8In StockSample available

Key Features

  • Ultra-low viscosity (80-180 mPa·s) for large-structure infusion
  • Extended pot life up to 120 min for complex infusion setups
  • Void content <0.5% with proper vacuum technique
  • Isophthalic base for superior water and weather resistance
  • Closed process — eliminates direct styrene operator exposure

Vacuum Infusion Grade UPR is a purpose-built isophthalic resin with the lowest viscosity (80-180 mPa·s at 25°C) in the UPR product range, designed for vacuum-assisted resin infusion (VARI) of large composite structures including wind turbine blade shells, boat hulls, and industrial panels. The ultra-low viscosity enables rapid resin flow through dry fiber stacks under full vacuum.

The resin is formulated with a slow inhibitor package providing a pot life of 60-120 minutes (adjustable), allowing complete infusion of structures up to 10-15 m² before gelation. The isophthalic backbone provides excellent water resistance and HDT ≥80°C after post-cure. Cure is by MEKP/cobalt at room temperature or heated tools at 50-70°C for faster production cycles.

Infused laminates at 50-55% fiber volume (glass) achieve flexural strength 270-350 MPa, tensile modulus 20-25 GPa, and void content <0.5%. The low void content, resulting from full vacuum compaction, gives consistently higher mechanical properties than open-mold hand lay-up while eliminating direct styrene exposure to operators. This grade is complementary to upr-rtm-infusion but offers slightly lower viscosity for the most demanding large-structure infusion applications.

FAQ

Both are isophthalic UPR grades for closed-mold processes. The vacuum infusion grade (this product) has slightly lower viscosity (80-180 vs. 100-250 mPa·s) and longer pot life (60-120 vs. 40-90 min) specifically for large one-sided open-tool vacuum infusion where flow distances are greatest. The RTM infusion grade is for both RTM injection and vacuum infusion and has slightly faster gel for injection through mix heads.
