Key Features

  • Pre-accelerated, ready to catalyze with MEKP
  • Excellent opacity and bright white color from titanium dioxide pigment
  • Thixotropic — no sag on vertical surfaces
  • Compatible with polyester and vinyl ester laminates
  • Consistent Barcol hardness ≥ 40 ensures hard, scratch-resistant surface

This general purpose white orthophthalic gelcoat is formulated on an orthophthalic unsaturated polyester resin base to deliver reliable cosmetic surface performance across a broad range of open-mold composite fabrication processes. Pre-pigmented with high-quality titanium dioxide, it provides excellent opacity and a consistent bright white finish directly from the mold. The thixotropic rheology allows application by brush, roller, or conventional spray gun at 0.4–0.6 mm wet film thickness without sagging on vertical surfaces. Cobalt-accelerated and ready to catalyze with MEKP at 1–2% loading, it achieves gel times of 20–35 minutes at 20°C, making it well-suited for production environments requiring predictable cure schedules. Post-cure Barcol hardness exceeds 40, confirming full network development before laminate application. The gelcoat is compatible with standard polyester and vinyl ester laminates and bonds tenaciously to the backing laminate when applied within the recommended secondary bond window. Typical applications include bathroom fixtures, shower trays, decorative panels, water tanks, and general FRP consumer products. The product complies with common workshop styrene emission guidelines and is supplied ready to use with standard PPE precautions.

FAQ

A dosage of 1.5% MEKP by weight is the standard starting point at 20°C. Increase to 2% in cooler conditions (below 15°C) and reduce to 1% in warm conditions (above 25°C) to maintain a consistent gel time of 20–35 minutes. Always pre-mix the MEKP thoroughly before applying the gelcoat.
