Marine Gelcoat (Blue)

In StockSample available

Key Features

  • Phthalocyanine blue pigment for excellent lightfastness in marine UV exposure
  • Isophthalic base for blister resistance in marine immersion
  • Pre-accelerated for MEKP catalysis
  • Thixotropic for sag-free vertical application
  • Compatible with standard polyester and vinyl ester laminates

This blue marine gelcoat is formulated on an isophthalic polyester resin base pre-pigmented to a mid-marine blue for use in boat hull, deck, and superstructure construction. The isophthalic resin provides the hydrolytic resistance required for marine immersion service, reducing osmotic blister risk compared to orthophthalic alternatives. The blue pigment system uses phthalocyanine blue for excellent lightfastness and color stability under marine UV exposure. Pre-accelerated with cobalt, catalyze with MEKP at 1–2%. Gel time 25–45 min at 20°C with 1.5% MEKP. Barcol hardness 42–50 post-cure. Compatible with polyester and vinyl ester laminates. Suitable for both spray and brush application. A wide range of custom marine colors is available on request with minimum order quantities.

FAQ

Phthalocyanine blue has excellent lightfastness (Blue Wool Scale rating 7–8) and is among the most UV-stable blue pigments available. Some color shift may occur after prolonged marine outdoor exposure due to chalking of the resin surface rather than pigment degradation. Regular polishing and waxing of the hull extends color life significantly.
