MMA Adhesive for Paintable Composite Parts

In StockSample available

Key Features

  • Withstands automotive paint bake cycles up to 180°C without bubbling
  • Low volatile formulation prevents paint defects during bake
  • High tensile shear strength (≥16 MPa) maintained through bake cycles
  • Gray color for primer-surfacer compatibility
  • 15–20 min open time for assembly line use

This MMA adhesive is specially formulated with a low volatile monomer system and smooth rheology optimized for bonding composite parts that will be subsequently painted through an automotive or industrial paint line including e-coat, primer-surfacer, and topcoat bake cycles at up to 180°C. Standard MMA adhesives may outgas during elevated temperature paint baking causing paint bubbles or adhesive pop-through. This paintable MMA formulation uses higher molecular weight components that minimize volatile release during bake cycles and maintains adhesive integrity through repeated thermal cycling. Tensile shear strength ≥16 MPa on FRP. Open time 15–20 min at 23°C. Full cure 24 h at RT or 30 min at 80°C. The cured adhesive withstands bake temperatures to 180°C without surface bubbling or loss of bond integrity. Available in gray for compatibility with primer-surfacer gray basecoat.

FAQ

The adhesive withstands standard automotive OEM paint processes including: ED coat (cathodic electrocoat, 170–180°C/20 min), primer-surfacer bake (160°C/20 min), basecoat/clearcoat bake (140–160°C/20 min). Ensure the adhesive has been cured for at least 1 hour at room temperature before subjecting to the first bake cycle. For non-standard paint processes above 180°C, test compatibility on a sample joint before committing to production.
