PVA Release Agent 3% Solution

CAS 9002-89-5In StockSample available

Key Features

  • 3% PVA for thin film release on polished, smooth molds
  • Water-soluble film — parts wash clean easily after demolding
  • Sprayable for fast, even application
  • Suitable as barrier coat on new molds during seasoning
  • No solvent — low VOC, safe for indoor use

This 3% polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) aqueous release agent solution is formulated for light-duty open mold composite production where a thin, water-soluble release film is required. PVA release agent forms a continuous, flexible film on the mold surface when sprayed or wiped and dried at ambient temperature. The dried PVA film acts as a physical barrier between the resin and the mold, providing reliable release. After demolding, the PVA film dissolves readily in water or dilute IPA — the part surface can be washed to remove any PVA residue before painting or bonding. The 3% concentration is the lightest standard grade, suitable for smooth polished molds producing thin parts where a very thin release film is needed. Suitable for polyester and vinyl ester laminating resins and gelcoat applications. The 3% solution is also used as a barrier coat over new molds during the initial seasoning period before applying wax release. Not recommended for elevated temperatures, RTM, or infusion processes.

FAQ

PVA concentration determines film thickness and release durability. 3% PVA gives a very thin film — suitable for polished molds with well-sealed surfaces and thin parts. 5% PVA is the general-purpose grade for production open mold work. 10% PVA gives a thicker film for textured molds, large parts, or when extra release durability is needed. Higher concentration also increases the number of releases per application (3% = 1–2 releases, 5% = 2–4, 10% = 4–6).
