Tooling Gelcoat (Gray, Dimensionally Stable)

In StockSample available

Key Features

  • Low shrinkage for dimensional accuracy in precision molds
  • Barcol 50–56 hardness for long production life
  • Medium gray for easy surface defect inspection
  • Pre-accelerated with cobalt for convenient MEKP cure
  • Compatible with polyester and vinyl ester tooling laminates

This gray dimensionally stable tooling gelcoat is formulated on a modified isophthalic resin with low shrinkage and high thermal stability for mold construction where surface accuracy and long-term dimensional stability are paramount. The medium gray color provides an ideal inspection surface. Barcol hardness after post-cure (60°C/8 h) reaches 50–56. HDT is 75–90°C. Gel time at 20°C with 1.5% MEKP is 35–60 min. Apply at 0.5–0.8 mm in 2–3 passes. Pre-accelerated with cobalt. Compatible with all polyester and vinyl ester tooling laminates. Suitable for marine, automotive, and wind energy tooling where repeatable part geometry is critical.

FAQ

Post-cure at 60°C for 8 hours after at least 24 hours ambient cure. This achieves Barcol 50–56 and HDT 75–90°C. For molds requiring higher temperature service, use the high-temp black tooling gelcoat with 80°C post-cure.
